Capacity-Building
While food for all is the vision of the Annam programme, we also recognize the issues that surround hunger. We do not seek to provide food as charity but to provide people with the means of earning their livelihood and taking their place in society. Hunger is the result of being unable to work for a living. It comes from not being part of a group, such as a family, that can sustain its members. The causes behind hunger are many. They include crippling injuries, psychological problems, dysfunctional relationships, loss of property, illness, and extreme poverty. These issues must be addressed if participants of the program are to be made self-reliant. Srishti seeks not only to feed but also to build capacity, to rehabilitate, and to employ.

Catering Unit

Leveraging the expertise we had from cooking everyday at Annam, Srishti Foundation started its own catering unit. This unit now successfully caters to weddings, parties, political
rallies (given the elections!) and a lot more. All the money from this activity is used towards Annam's feeding activity.

Livelihood

As far as possible, we feed only those who are unable to work or fend for themselves. All able people are counseled and if willing, trained. Several participants of the Annam program have been employed. These participants were counseled as well as trained at Annam; they were taught basic life skills and given a sense of responsibility. Jobs include that of security guard, electrician's assistant, wiring technician etc. Many have been employed by the Srishti Foundation itself. Two other participants have been "adopted" by Annam and live on the Annam premises. Happy to be doing something and to belong somewhere, these participants are the success stories of the Annam program.
